Australian Government Career Information for School Leavers

April 2024

Schools across the nation have been equipped with vital resources to aid school leavers in navigating their future career paths. The School Leavers Information Kit and the Australian Jobs 2023 report are now available in hard copies and online, marking a significant step in supporting young Australians aged 15 to 24 years.

The National Careers Institute has released these resources to ensure that school leavers are well-informed about the various pathways available to them. Whether pursuing higher education, entering the workforce, or exploring training options, these materials serve as a comprehensive guide.

Resources Available

School Leavers Information Kit (SLIK): Offers detailed information on higher education, training options, financial assistance, and job opportunities.

Parents and Guardians Guide (PGG): This guide provides support for parents and guardians to initiate crucial conversations about career choices with their children.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander SLIK: Tailored guidance for First Nations youth, highlighting specific programs and services available for life after school.

Support for Young People with Disability: Information on various programs and resources aimed at assisting young individuals with disabilities in their transition from school.

Support for Regional, Rural, and Remote Young People: This program offers guidance and support for young people living in less accessible areas, ensuring they have the tools needed to succeed after school.

Australian Jobs 2023: A clear, accessible overview of the Australian labour market, invaluable for students, career advisors, and job seekers.

Action Call

We urge school principals and educational staff to actively promote these resources within their schools. The National Careers Institute has prepared a draft communication to assist this effort. Furthermore, feedback on these resources is invaluable; a link to a survey is included in the communication draft for this purpose.
