Applications from suitably experienced professionals are being sought for positions on the Board of the Australian Council of State School Organisations (ACSSO), a community service organisation Limited by Guarantee (not-for-profit).

ACSSO is the one voice for every child in public education in Australia. We believe that the primary obligation of governments, both Federal and State, is to establish and maintain government systems of education which:

engage with family and community at all levels of education;
are of the highest standard and open to all, irrespective of race, gender, religion, social-economic status, geographic location, or ability;
can respond to changing landscape of education in the 21st Century and respond and develop flexible and diverse programs necessary to meet student needs;
discriminates in favour of those schools and individual students who are challenged with disadvantage and/or disability.

Forty years of research shows considerable evidence for the importance of family engagement in school. The services we provide aim to help families and their communities engage with their local school.

Directors of ACSSO will be expected to allocate at least 6 hours per month as a Board Member. Board meetings are held electronically (via teams). Directors are encouraged to sit on one or more advisory Committees.

Successful applicants will have an excellent understanding of corporate governance, be experienced in strategic planning, and demonstrate an ability to make a meaningful contribution to strategic decision-making and corporate oversight. In addition, the Board is seeking individuals who have a demonstrated entrepreneurial, commercial and innovation focus, with a preference for Education sector experience, Regulatory knowledge, and Experience with Grants Funding.

Previous experience as a company director will be well regarded. All Directors of ACSSO are volunteer positions.
