Student Resilience and Wellbeing

January 2023

For good reason, how to foster resilience in your child is a hot issue in education and health right now.

The capacity to deal with unfavourable life experiences and obstacles is referred to as resilience. It has been characterised as the ability to 'bounce back' from hardship and persevere in the face of adversity. Many individuals believe that developing resilience in young people is the solution to our society's current pandemic of mental illness. The prevalence of anxiety and depression among students is increasing (Sawyer et al, 2000; Mission Australia, 2009), and schools are well positioned to promote healthy student attitudes and self-awareness.

Schools have an important role in promoting student well-being. Student resilience, both emotionally and intellectually, is critical for the development of young Australians.
