BOYS' EDUCATION LIGHTHOUSE SCHOOLS PROJECT CALLS FOR APPLICATIONS FOR GRANTS OF UP TO $20,000

This special edition of Public Education Voice encourages government Primary and Secondary Schools in all States and Territories to seriously consider applying for a grant of up to $20,000 to describe, illustrate, document and strengthen what they are already doing in relation to boys' education.

Funding is available for between 50 to 70 schools or school clusters, but the time is short to put in an application. Individual schools are eligible for up to $5000, clusters of schools up to $20,000.

Background

The Commonwealth Minister for Education, Science and Training, Hon Dr Brendan Nelson MP recently commissioned a national program to identify, document and disseminate good practices in teaching and learning in the education of boys in Australia - this is now called the Boys' Education Lighthouse Schools Programme.

In Stage 1, grants will be provided to fund good school practices in boys' education.  These school activities and reports will be used as a means of informing the Commonwealth about what are current best practices, what the strengths and weaknesses are in the practices, what issues need to be addressed, and what needs to be done in the future to strengthen outcomes for boys.
